La ville en chemin

Trente et un projets et réalisations à travers le monde retracent dans le présent ouvrage le cheminement conceptuel qui mène de la gare à la ville à travers l'espace urbanisé. Organisé en quatre actes, il témoigne également du chemin parcouru en dix ans par le bureau d'études AREP (aménagement, recherche, pôles d'échanges) constitué auprès du groupe SNCF.

Avec le thème de la mobilité pour fil conducteur, une nouvelle ville se dessine sous nos yeux en suivant le rail et les réseaux de transports urbains qui consacrent la place du piéton dans la ville retrouvée. Les autres modes doux de déplacement lui emboîtent le pas, accompagnés par la nature qui effectue son retour en ville, joignant l'agrément à la recherche d'un développement urbain durable.

Cities on the move

Providing a compilation of thirty one projects and completed works from across the world, this book examines the conceptual route from station to city across urbanised spaces. Organised into four acts, it also bears witness to challenges met over the last ten years by the AREP engineering firm (Aménagement, Recherche, Pôles d'Echanges), part of the SNCF group.

Using the theme of mobility as its unifying thread, a new city concept is being created through the use of rail and urban transport networks that increasingly place emphasis on the privileged place held by pedestrians in the newly adapted city. Other low impact modes of travel are accompanying this change, associated with the rediscovery of nature within the city setting, a way of combining pleasure with explorations into sustainable urban development.
