Quatrième de couverture
After having photographed the outskirts of major European cities in his previous book Euro-outskirts, Rafael Font Vaillant has chosen to focus this time on one of the most famous and legendary rivers in the world: the Seine. In the four French regions through which the Seine passes in its 700 kilometre journey, namely Burgundy (where we find its source) followed by Champagne, the Paris region and finally Normandy where its estuary is located, Font Vaillant has skilfully shown the river and its banks without cheating, in other words by photographing all that is beautiful along this famous river, but also some of its less attractive aspects.
<Above all, I wanted to avoid producing one of these "touristy" books which hide much of the reality.> The result is an extremely varied collection of more than 160 colour photos. These are also unusual photos, including for example pictures showing some of the region's braver souls bathing in the Seine. Brave because it has to be said that this river is still used all too often by certain individuals as a highly practical open-air sewer.
