Quatrième de couverture

On the left side of the painting, a man with a worrisome frown seems to be sulking, away from Christ and his apostles.

Who is he?

A strange personality, he bears a striking resemblance to Martin Luther, the father of the Protestant Reform. This dissident, excommunicated monk, seen as the antichrist in the eyes of the Roman church, this "man of the devil" as it were, here he is seated at the table of the Last Supper?

What heresy!

The authors of this book bring us along on a passionate inquiry into the story of this painting. This work from 1528 by the Flemish painter, Pieter Coecke van Aelst, finally reveals its secrets, disclosing its real and dangerous message after close to 500 years of secrecy.
